Buska Lodge is found at Turmi- settlement of the Hammer people- located at 778KM from Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia. Covering a total of 30,000 sq. meters area, it's compound is a fascinating green area with about 120 species of plants. In addition to the 22 standard bed rooms(4 Singles, 7 Doubles and 11 Twins), the lodge also has 10 roofed camping islands for those who prefer camping. We provide camping gear including spacious water proof tents, sleeping mattresses, cooking huts, etc.
Buska Lodge offers the opportunity to learn about and experience the culture and traditions of the local Hammer community offering a glimpse into the cultures of the Omo Valley. The Hammer are famous for their Evangadi dance and “Bull jumping” ceremony where a young man who wants to marry jumps over a line of bulls in order to show that he is worth to the pride’s family. The Hammer share traditions and rituals with surrounding people like the Tsemai, Ari, Karo, and Bena. This well designed lodge is ideally located offering comfortable and relaxed visits to the main Omo valley tribes namely, Hammer, Karo, Dassenech, Bume, and Benna.
How to get here by air - Option 1
Fly from Addis Ababa to Arbaminch, flights are available daily. Then drive 275KM (90KM asphalt and 185 gravel road) that takes about 5– 6 hours. On the way it is possible to visit the Konso and Erbore tribal villages.How to get here driving from Addis Ababa.
Drive 503 KM south to Arbaminch, which takes almost a full day. The next day, drive 275KM that takes about 5– 6 hours.
Drive 605 KM south to Yabello via Awassa. The next day, drive 285KM that takes about 7 - 8 hours.
Buska lodge is 140 KM from Jinka. Along this path are the two interesting weekly cultural market at Key Afer (on Thursdays) and Dimeka (on Saturdays and Tuesdays).
Key Afer market is at 42KM on the way from Jinka to Turmi (Buska Lodge) where the Bena, Tsemay, and Ari tribes trade.
Dimeka market is at 107KM on the way from Jinka to Turmi (Buska Lodge) where the Hammer and Bena tribes trade.
Drive 200 KM north of Moyale (the boarder town) and turn left at Yabello and drive 100 km west. At Konso, leave the road to Arba Minch on the right and drive 185 km left crossing Weito where you will turn left again.
